Rich Lanet is a Los Angeles area-based artist whose 3-dimensional wall sculptures playfully engage geometric shapes using both wood & steel, along with light to create varying perspectives of his compositions which are activated by the viewers relation to the multi-dimensional works. Lighting and shadows play a prominent role in his work.
Rich was born in Los Angeles, lives in Venice and now has a working studio in Culver City. He received a BS degree from the School of Architecture & Environmental Design at Cal Poly University, San Luis Obispo; along with 1 year of Fine Arts studies at the University of California, Berkeley. Although Rich has been always been a working artist, it is only in the last 3 years that he has actively engaged in the world of publicly displaying & showing his work.
I see life in shapes and forms, angles and perspectives – always have and I’m sure I always will.
My work, accentuated by lighting & shadows, is contemporary and abstract; yet my sculptures and art come from my soul and are created with a deep sense of humanity, which I believe conveys a sense of warmth that viewers have shared with me when they see my artwork in person. The work is dynamic and engaging and shifts depending on the lighting and on one’s point of view, background, and life experiences. I hope that it can encourage a conversation among viewers that allows for the exchange of differing perspectives, both literally and figuratively.
My designs are an esoteric response to the world I see daily, and my need to reflect that in an orderly and disorderly art form, which often helps me to deal with both the beauty and senselessness I see in today’s world; in some way they are my “hope for humanity”.
